about
Revbjelde remix of the classic 1973 electro track by Tony T.S. McPhee.
TONY MCPHEE is one of the most influential guitarists to have emerged from the 1960s blues explosion. He founded THE GROUNDHOGS in 1963 and quickly became the backing band of choice for UK tours by JOHN LEE HOOKER, JACK DUPREE, JIMMY REED & HOWLING WOLF. He toured with THE ROLLING STONES and made several appearances on TOP OF THE POPS & THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST in the 1970's.
"an ultra-hip, utopian musical force...recording alongside Can, Hawkwind & Amon Duul 2 for the Liberty label...frantic, unresolved, post-blues played at breakneck speed with a hard, non-hippy idealism & drums sounding like the god Thor using a gasworks as tom-toms" JULIAN COPE
In 1973 Tony released a solo LP - The Two Sides of Tony (T.S.) McPhee featuring a collection of personal blues songs. However, side two of the album presented something entirely different - a single track, 19 minutes long with no guitars, two newly purchased ARP2600 synthesizers, organ and a Bentley Rhythm Ace drum machine.
THE HUNT is breathtakingly original - a stark, almost medieval, distorted slab of industrial electronics that precedes acts such as Throbbing Gristle, Suicide & Cabaret Voltaire by years. Tony also provides a vitriolic, anti-fox hunting, anti-establishment vocal giving the finger to the landed gentry.
We are thrilled to present an edited version of the original 19 minute track, on limited edition 7" vinyl + digital download, tastefully condensed by radiophonic folkies REVBJELDE who also provide a screaming electro-waltz remix on the flipside.

Amazing from start to finish. Sort of like encountering Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music for the first time, it's like stepping off a spiral staircase into the deep end of a whole 'nother universe of mysteries. "Triptik 2", the closer, is one of the most jaw-droppingly strange/hypnotic collisions of jazz, electronica, psychedelia and WTF I've ever heard - and yet it somehow works. Bought both volumes just on the strength of the first one & hoping there are many more to be issued. rocketmorton

Great record. wears it's influences proudly ..but retains a sliver of identity that is uniquely British and has a northern feel to it..I think that these geographic musical vignettes are realy evocotive of northern Newtown Uber estates and satellite communities..I hope this translates to a wider audience for him...he deserves the attention. give him his due .NOW . christopherogley
