The black Albumen began as an experiment by Glyn Bush (The Dandelion Set / Rockers HiFi) creating material rooted in the sounds of early 1970's organ trio Egg with nods to Jaga Jazzist, The Cardiacs & Knifeworld.
Bush elaborates: “I’d always loved Egg, hearing them as a youth on John Peel , avidly dissecting their visceral mix of pounding, irregular rhythms with octatonic + bitonal riffs mixed with elements of Stravinsky."
Finnish musician Hanna Ylitepsa embraces the odd meters and uneven bar lengths, adding her distinctive voice and poetic lyrics. Drummer Matt Hartnell provides a hard-hitting feel with the right degree of sensitivity. Assisted by producer Mark Tucker (who trained at Lansdowne Studios where Egg recorded) during the lockdown, by autumn of 2021 everything was mastered and good to go.
This limited edition 7" lathe cut single is presented in a cosmic 8 page art booklet designed by Nick Taylor and will be followed by a 10" mini LP in April 2022.
