New from Glyn “Bigga” Bush (Rockers Hi Fi, Lightning Head, Magic Drum Orchestra, The Dandelion Set), The black Albumen sees him team up with Finnish poet/singer Hanna Ylitepsa & drawing inspiration from early 1970s power trios such as Egg + Soft Machine.

Utilising a stripped-back palate of organ, bass + drums Glyn experiments with uneven time signatures & unconventional harmonics.

There are stylistic nods to The Nice, Cream, Hendrix and Stravinsky yet whilst the music is undoubtedly progressive, “prog rock” really doesn't do it justice. There are no self-aggrandising solos or epic concepts. Instead tracks are sparse & economic with riffs repeated in cycles of ever-changing lengths + meters with layers of keyboards bubbling over hard-hitting grooves & fuzz bass.

Other reference points would be Faust + Henry Cow with elements of free improv. Glyn explains: “I'm not trying to duplicate - it's about using sound & rhythm to provoke a visceral response”.

Presented in a mind-scrambling colour sleeve by Nick Taylor with a translated lyric sheet lovingly reproduced by Stuart Lloyd Gould, this is another highly collectible & brilliant sounding Buried Treasure release on 10" vinyl lathe cut by ben soundhog at Plastidisc (keep an eye out for ben's runout groove messages).
