    THE GUARDIAN

    surreal cold war disquiet
    FORTEAN TIMES

London, 1968. Iain Parker & Cissy Wakefield produce electronic sounds for the British Radio & Television corporation where their innovative techniques are in huge demand. Yet all is not well after the discovery of an abandoned studio leads to a startling revelation.

In 2006 producer Alan Gubby (Revbjelde / Buried Treasure) inherited a box of reel-to-reel recordings by John Baker from the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop. What began as an album project for the Trunk label soon turned into an obsessive 16-year investigation into the origins of British electronic music, broadcast propaganda, military history & the transformative nature of sound. The Delaware Road has since manifested as a script, a compilation album, a 6-part graphic zine, theatrical show & a series of legendary live events.

The omnibus edition brings these varied strands together & much more in a captivating, 196-page book with new artwork by Nick Taylor & Jarrod Gosling, alternative designs, early concepts, an appendix packed with concert photographs, location shoots plus an updated version of the original graphic novel. Intended as the definitive Delaware document, it’s an expansive summation of the project & a cohesive reimagining of a post-war Albion.

With a foreword by Mark Pilkington (Strange Attractor Press) plus new introductions by Alan Gubby & David Yates, the book is published on Friday 2nd Dec 2022,

about

The Delaware Road is an audio-visual treat for fans of BBC radiophonis, Delia Derbyshire, John Baker, archived electronica, far out jazz & spectral folk grooves.

Conceived & written by Alan Gubby (producer of “John Baker: The Vendetta Tapes” & ‘The John Baker Tapes’ , co-producer of Delia Derbyshire's Moogies Bloogies + Circle Of Light releases on Trunk Records). With additional dialogue by Dolly Dolly and musical contributions from an array of artists working within the British electronic, tape, jazz, folk & prog world.
