Haig Fras is a 30-mile-long granite submarine reef in the Celtic Sea, located 65 miles northwest of the Isles of Scilly. At one point its peaks are barely 100 feet below the sea surface, akin to the tors of a submerged, lost Dartmoor.
Under the same name, the music of Neil Mortimer (Urthona) and Mark Pilkington (Teleplasmiste) takes inspiration from this beautiful but remote and lonely place, a real-life parallel to the mythical land of Lyonesse.
Initially conceived as an improvised noise project, Haig Fras’ music has evolved into vivid, synthesizer-based songs of distant, sunken splendour.
Cut on clear vinyl by soundhog @plastidisc and presented in a stunning 8-page colour booklet of acrylic paintings by Aaron Thomason a.k.a. Sun Moth (limited edition of 50).

This entire album is staggeringly good, but my favourite is Slowly Coming Together, which does indeed seem to slowly distill all that is Jilk into one track. Amazing work, and wonderful to come across through the subscription library. swansither
